Rajnath Singh

New Delhi, Dec 28: The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take up the investigation of four cases registered by Assam police relating to the recent attacks by suspected NDFB(S) group in the two districts of Sonitpur and Kokrajhar.  in which large number of people were killed.

According to reports, the Assam government had recommended that the investigation of these cases may be handed over to the NIA.

Considering the gravity of the offences and relevant factors, the Centre is of the opinion that these attacks are scheduled offences under the NIA Act, 2008 and should be probed by it.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Friday said the government’s main target is to completely finish the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit).

Speaking to reporter, Rijiju said: “We are one step ahead, last night I visited Assam with my senior colleague Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. We have decided to launch an operation. Our target is to completely finish the NDFB(S) faction.”

Chief of Army Staff, General Dalbir Singh Suhag, had also told the media after meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh that operations against militants in Assam will be intensified.

The Centre has taken a tough stance against NDFB (S), saying no talks will be held with the group.

Over 70 people including women and children have lost their lives in recent violence in Kokrajhar, Sonitpur and Chirang districts. Several injured persons are undergoing treatment.
