Dhaka, June 29: A Bangladesh high court has cleared way for a lower court to continue proceedings against Bangladesh Nationalist Party(BNP) chief Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case by striking down her petition.
According to reports, the petition asked the court to expunge the deposition of the investigation officer (IO) in the case.
The verdict was passed by a bench comprising Justice Mohammed Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan, who reportedly said that recording the statement of the IO in the graft case was not illegal.
Earlier on June 18, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson had appeared before a court in connection to the Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.
Zia’s lawyers had told the court that they earlier submitted a writ petition with the High Court, asking it to expunge the recording of the complainant’s statement.
