New Delhi, Oct 13: Taking a tough stand on Shashi Tharoor, Congress party on Monday removed him as spokesperson of the party following a complaint by Kerala Congress leaders for his “adulation” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Congress has reportedly stated that it would brook no deviation from the party line on PM Modi and the BJP, which dislodged the UPA after two terms in May.
Last week, the Kerala Congress had complained against Tharoor in a report to the party’s leadership for accepting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to join the Swachh Bharat campaign.
Earlier, the Kerala unit had recommended disciplinary action against Shashi Tharoor, whose repeated praise of the prime minister has irked his party members.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president VM Sudheeran had submitted the report saying Tharoor’s statements have hurt thousands of party workers in the state.
Opposition parties in Kerala on Saturday had also demanded an independent and comprehensive probe into the mysterious death of Shashi Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar.
The demand came after Pushkar`s latest post-mortem report stated “poisoning” to be the cause of her death. Sunanda, 52, was found dead in her room at a five-star hotel in South Delhi on the night of January 17.
Her tragic death occured a day after her twitter spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar over the latter’s alleged affair with Tharoor.
