Johannesburg, Dec 24: In a fund-raising tennis exhibition held in Zurich, 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer and compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka raised over a million dollars to help disadvantaged children in Africa and Switzerland.
According to Sport24 report, the Davis Cup champions raised 1.3 million dollars for the Roger Federer Foundation, which aids disadvantaged children in Africa and Switzerland.
Federer, who won the match 7-6(7/4), 6-4 against Wawrinka, reportedly said the evening was a great experience for him as both were given a wonderful reception in the stadium’
Federer furher said that it was more special as they were able to raise a large amount for the foundation.
The foundation, since its establishment, has raised around 17 million dollars for education programmes, besides helping 285,000 children in six countries in southern Africa and in Switzerland, the report added.
