Kolkata, Nov 12: Applauding the performance of Indian cricket team, former skipper Sourav Ganguly said India deserves the number one ranking in ICC One-Day Internationals (ODI rankings) after having played nice in the last three series.
“They have been playing well in the last three series. They beat England in England, won against the West Indies and now here too they have clinched the series,” Ganguly said.
Currently placed at number third position behind South Africa and Australia, India have an opportunity to grab the top position in the ICC ODI rankings if they win the series 4-1 or better against Sri-Lanka.
The Indian team has already taken an unassailable 3-0 lead over the Sri Lankans, against whom they play the fourth match of the series at the iconic Eden Gardens here on Nov 13. India defeated England 3-1 in August-September, and beat West Indies 2-1 in October.
Ganguly, who is now the CAB’s joint secretary would be seen in a duel role during the match as he would also be doing commentary during the fourth ODI here on Thursday. “Yes, I will be seen in both the capacities,” he said.
While talking about team selection, Ganguly said the selectors should have chosen Manoj Tiwary in the Indian side. “According to me, Tiwary should have been very much part of the side. But there’s nothing to be disappointed about it,” said Ganguly.
Bengal’s perspective glovesman Wriddhiman Saha, who was part of the first three ODIs, will not be seen as he has been ‘rested’ in next match.
