New Delhi, June 29: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested a top leader of Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang), Khumlo Abi Anal, from Chandel district of Manipur.
Khumlo Abi was allegedly involved in the conspiracy behind the killing of 18 Army personnel in Manipur along the Indo-Myanmar border.
A convoy of 6 Dogra Regiment was ambushed by suspected NSCN (K) militants at Paraolong village in Manipur’s Chandel district bordering Myanmar. The ambush also left 15 Army personnel injured.
The convoy was on its way to Imphal from Motul on a road opening patrol as part of their daily routine, about 80 km from Imphal. The ambush occurred at around 8.30 am on June 4 when the convoy reached a place between Paralong and Charong villages.
Earlier this month, the Central government had handed over the probe into the Manipur ambush to the National Investigation Agency.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken to Twitter and posted: “Today’s mindless attack in Manipur is very distressing. I bow to each and every soldier who has sacrificed his life for the Nation.”
