PM Narendra Modi urges people to be part of International Yoga Day celebrations

New Delhi, June 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the people to participate in the first International Yoga Day celebrations on Sunday and also inspire others to do the same.

The Prime Minister took to Twitter to say: “Tomorrow the world will celebrate the first #YogaDay. I urge you all to be a part of it & inspire others to join as well.”

The yoga celebrations are being organised after the United Nations had in December last year declared June 21 as
International Yoga Day, with 177 countries voting in favour.

The proposal was mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the UN General Assembly last year.

Earlier in the day, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance and urged Congress president Sonia Gandhi to join the International Yoga Day celebrations at the Rajpath.

Ramdev said: “I would like to request from this stage that honourable Sonia Gandhiji should accept Modi ji`s invitation and join the International Yoga Day celebrations at Rajpath.”

Ramdev said: “Mahatma Gandhi ji, Nehru ji, Indira ji all did yoga, even Soniaji did yoga to get well when she was ill.”

He also highlighted the benefits of yoga, and said one should give equal importance to every aspect of yoga.
