New Delhi, Nov 13: Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma who was missing from international cricket for quite some time has hit the bull’s eye by slamming his second one-day double hundred against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. He made this score by hitting only 151 balls.
Rohit scored his first double ton against Australia last year in Bangalore where he scored 209 off 158 balls.
Rohit should consider himself lucky as he was dropped on 4 by Thisara Perera at third man. But he lived up to the faith by the team management and captain as well by slamming a double century.
His innings was studded with 24 fours and sixes, and was finally dismissed at 264 on the final ball of the innings.
India reached 404/5 in the stipulated 50 overs, setting a mammoth target for Sri Lanka.
India have already made a lead of 3-0 in the five-match series and the Eden contest was a comeback fight for Rohit, scoring heavily to script history.
‘Master blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag are the other two batsmen to score double hundreds.
Led by the flamboyant Virat Kohli, India have outplayed the islanders, handing them crushing defeats in the first three ODIs to take an unassailable lead in the series.
At the present moment India are No. 3 in the ODI rankings, just behind Australia and South Africa, and a 4-1 series win will push India to the top position.
