New Delhi: Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal marched into her first final of the season after beating China’s Wang Yihan in the women’s singles event of the Australian Open Super Series in Sydney on Saturday.
According to reports, seventh seed Saina registered a 21-8, 21-12 victory over fourth seed Yihan in a one-sided semi-final contest that lasted half an hour.
Eyeing her maiden title of the season, Saina has now set up a summit showdown against China’s Sun Yu, who made it to the finals after beating her fellow countrywoman LI Xuerui 21-18, 21-19.
Meanwhile, in men’s singles event, Kidambi Srikanth suffered a major blow as he was knocked out of the tournament after going down 20-22, 13-21 to Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark.
