Kolkata: In the multi-crore rupee Saradha chit fund scam case, one more minister of the Trinamool-led West Bengal government was quizzed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here on Friday.
According to reports, the CBI has summoned West Bengal State Transport Minister Madan Mitra second time for questioning. Earlier on November 18, he could not appear due to health reasons. Mitra was discharged from the state-run SSKM Hospital on Nov 26.
Mitra, who denied any involvement in the scam, had asserted he would cooperate with the CBI whenever it called him for questioning.
According to reports, the minister had appeared as a guest in several Saradha programmes where he had praised the group promoter and scam kingpin, Sudipta Sen, for generating employment.
The CBI had earlier grilled Mitra’s former confidential assistant Bapi Karim. Mitra is the second state minister after Textile Minister Shyamapada Mukherjee to be grilled by the CBI.
It may be noted that other Trinamool leaders including Rajya Sabha members Kunal Ghosh and Srinjoy Bose are behind the bars in connection with the scam.
The police custody of suspended Trinamool MP Kunal Ghosh, who was arrested on November 23, ends today. Last month, Ghosh allegedly made a suicide attempt by taking sleeping pills inside the Alipore Central Jail.
